Week 65.

A week ago I was at 212.6. This morning I’m at 211.8. I still had too much beer this week, although I did cut down on it compared to the last couple of weeks, mostly because I’m pretty much all out of the store bought beer. I have enough bottles of the home brew to have one every day through Easter Sunday. I still have one more person I told he could have one. Batch number two will bottled on Monday or Tuesday this week.

I think if I can stick to one bottle everyday, I shouldn’t be in too bad of shape at the end of Challenge 5. Also this Active Rest has been great for my back. Not sore or anything. Also I might buy my own house. I’m going to look at it this afternoon. It’s a small house and I hope there’s enough room for all my stuff, especially my weights and home beer making operation. So it could be time for a major change in my life. The house I’m looking at had been up for sale before, the owner wanted over $120,000 for it. He’s now down to $90,000, which is a lot more reasonable considering how old and small the house is. I can probably do some fixing up on it if I need to before I move in. That is if I buy the house in the first place.

Two weeks ago I was 208. This morning I’m 212.6. I’ve drunk way too much tasty home brewed beer the past week. And too much traveling fast food yesterday.

C4 W12! Challenge 4 Summary!

A week ago I was at 209.4 pounds. This morning I’m at 208. When this challenge started back on November 25th, I was 210.4 pounds. So in the last 12 weeks I lost 2.4 pounds. I think though that when I take the pictures later today that I will look different enough to make the lack of “weight loss” unimportant. I did drop down to 206 early in this challenge, but I think that was mostly the result of not eating much after some dental work I had done.

I’m just so amazed that I’ve been doing this for so long. It’s been 433 days since I got started. At first it was a challenge and a project for myself. Now it’s a way of life, the way I decide what to eat, the time I spend working out, the less alcohol I drink, it’s all part of how I live now. I do miss the old ways sometimes, which is why this coming week, it’ll be nice to have a week off and eat some of the things I don’t get to eat much. I don’t miss being unable to get comfortable in bed and stay asleep. I don’t miss not being able to fit in to clothes. I don’t miss being almost too big for my car. I’m probably never going to look like one of the guys in a magazine or a book, no matter how hard I try. But if I stay around 210 pounds and feel comfortable, that’ll be great.

As for this challenge, it was difficult sometimes. Road trips, Christmas, New Year’s, Birthday, Super Bowl, etc. This challenge ended up lasting 13 weeks because of the sore back last month. I would grade myself with an A in each of the first three challenges. This one, I’d grade myself with a B+. It was good, but I could have done a lot better. I think the next challenge will be good to get me back to trying to do better.

C4 W10/W11. Weeks 60 and 61.

Two weeks ago I was at 208.6. Due to a bit of overeating/beer drinking most of the week of the Super Bowl and my birthday, I ended up at 211.4 a week ago. My sore back made a comeback last Thursday and Friday as well. It wasn’t a good week. After a good week this one, I’m down to 209.4. I missed doing an update last Saturday because I was excited about trying out the birthday present I got for myself, a beer making kit. Last year’s project got started in December of 2011 (BFL). This year’s new project is getting started in February. I’m making a Hefeweizen style beer off a kit I got from a local home brewing store. One of my goals for the next decade is to have a new project every year to work on, either long term or even short term. In 2011, I got my finances in order and they’ve stayed there since then. In 2012, I got my weight in order. This year, it will be beer making. I’m not quitting BFL, I’m just adding to my life. Maybe in 2014, I’ll have kids…

Looking forward to a good final week here. Looking in the mirror, I think I made some progress this time. It’s not coming out on the scale, but I feel skinnier despite not “losing weight” this challenge.

My plan going forward is to take a week off, have three weeks of no weight lifting active rest and then start Challenge 5 on March 24th. Unless something goes wrong, that challenge would end on June 15th. At that point, my parents will be going on Vacation and I will have to run the family biz while they’re gone and they will be back on July 4th. Then I take my vacation the weekend of July 10-15. I will probably take five weeks off from Challenges and get started on Challenge #6 on July 22nd.

It’s always best to plan ahead. I’m sort of OCD like that…

C4 W9. Week 59.

A week ago I was 209. This week I’m at 208.6. Good week at getting back to my routine. Looking forward to checking out the local Gold’s Gym tomorrow and Monday morning.

I’m at my sister’s place in St. Louis. We are having a Super Bowl party tomorrow night and then on Wednesday my parents are probably taking me out for dinner for my birthday. Sadly, because I’m here I’m going to miss my grandparents anniversary party. Last year’s was the one where I thought I looked crazy skinnier at 292 pounds. But yeah, nutrition might not be great this week. Seems like I’ve done well since the end of the holidays in all. Last year I watched the Super Bowl at home by myself so I was able to avoid the whole “party” food thing. But this year I’m cooking up my famous salsa dip, so we will see how well I do. I did bring some healthy food along so I should do okay tomorrow and Monday.

And even worse? It’s the Ravens and 49er’s in the Super Bowl. As a Steelers fan, no matter who wins, I won’t like it. If the 49er’s win, they’ll tie the Steelers for the most Super Bowl wins. If the Ravens win, well, barf. At least we beat them this season in Baltimore. I was really hoping for a Falcons-Patriots Super Bowl. When the playoffs started, I thought it would be the Broncos and Packers. Oh well it’s just football. As long as I don’t have to watch a Cubs-Red Sox World Series any time soon, it’s not too bad.

A week ago I was at 210. Today I’m at 209.

I ended up not doing any challenge working out this week. I spent Saturday and Sunday sick with a cold, felt very weak Sunday morning. I felt like I wouldn’t get anything out of weight lifting that morning.

Monday morning I woke up with the cold pretty much gone and a sore back. It was bad. I could barely walk on Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday and Thursday it was slightly better, I could walk at a normal pace. Yesterday it felt like everything was getting back to normal but felt like I didn’t want to push things since I still had a little bit of back pain. So yeah, a pretty crappy week. I stuck to the food though and now I’m ready to start week 9 tomorrow morning.

A week ago I was at 208.6. This morning I’m at 210. Gained a little back this week. Oh well.

I have a cold now. I didn’t work out yesterday morning. Just not feeling very well right now. I tried to stick with the food yesterday, but I I was just not feeling it, when it came time to work out. I think part of it was that I was crazy busy yesterday. I got called in to work at 3:00 yesterday morning and was there for an hour, fixing a machine for over an hour. I just had a hard time dragging myself out of bed yesterday morning.

A week ago, I was at 209. This morning I’m at 208.6. So yeah, I would say that I have recovered entirely from Christmas and New Year’s, considering I only gained a little over a pound during the holidays, it wasn’t too hard to recover from the holidays. I would like to maybe take some time off next year during the holidays, but I will have to see where I’m at in December. Overall, I have done pretty well getting back to my normal routine for Challenge number 4.

Today I’m heading to Chicago for a day to see Mystery Science Theater 3000 creator Joel Hodgson at the Mayne Stage doing his Riffing Myself thing. I was supposed to stay at a friend’s apartment nearby, but both his him and his wife have had the flu lately and so I’ll be staying at a hotel nearby instead.

I have a new girlfriend as well. So far, it’s been a lot of fun, but the first few weeks are always the easiest time in a relationship. The hard part is keeping it going over the long haul, which I have never been very successful at. No idea if it’s me or just always picking up on the wrong girls…

C4 W6. Week 55.

A week ago, I was at 209.2. This morning I’m at 209. I’d say the week got off to a rough start. I did good on my non-free day on Saturday. On Sunday, I probably had too much to eat at the annual family party. On Monday night, I had some beer, two Tom and Jerrys and some junk during the big annual fondue party at my aunt and uncle’s place (and by big, I mean about 6 people).

But with nothing going on the rest of the week, I was able to get back on course with nutrition, which has worked so far. I missed a meal last night because I fell asleep right after dinner. Oh well.

Continuing with the renovations I started last January. So yeah, going to get more “work out” than I normally get…

C4 W5. Week 54.

A week ago I was at 207.8. This morning I’m at 209.2. Overall I had some good productive workouts, but I didn’t do well with the eating. Christmas Eve night I had a lot of junk plus a lot of brandy. I didn’t get much sleep that night, about four hours. So then Christmas day, I was hung over and had a lot of sugary junk at my grandparents house. Throw in a four year old jumping on me and generally beating me up and I had a helluva headache by around 4. The day after Christmas, besides helping my sister and her future husband pack so that they could leave to head back to St. Louis, I didn’t do much which was awesome. Wednesday – Friday, I was back to normal eating.

This weekend, I’m going to take my day off from food on Sunday. Today I’ll keep eating right. I’m having my workout day off today. My uncle is having his big annual holiday party on Sunday so I figure I should make that my day off instead, it’ll be the first time I’ve done this (having my food day off on some other day), so we will see how it goes.

I’m also excited because I have a date next week with yet another girl I’ve been chatting with on POF. I only messaged her at first because she had a photo of herself at an Iowa Hawkeyes football game. I’m a sucked for girls in black and gold.

On January 12th, I’m heading to Chicago for a day to see Joel Hodgson’s Riffing Myself show. I’m really excited about that. Plus a friend of mine is letting me use his couch. So yeah, that’s pretty exciting too.

Just a lot of great stuff coming up here. 2013 is gonna be awesome, I believe…
