C4 W4. Week 53!

December 22, 2012

Last week I was at 208.6. This morning I’m at 207.8. It was a pretty good week, which included my one year anniversary starting BFL on December 18th. Next week I will be changing my weight lifting exercises after four weeks with one routine.

Christmas and New Year’s coming up the next two weeks, gotta try my best to avoid too much junk food. My sister is coming here from St. Louis this weekend until Wednesday. Her future husband is one of those guys who can eat a ton and not gain any weight. He’s what I would call a bad influence. Then the 30th of January is the big annual New Year’s party at my uncle’s place which is mostly lots of food with sugar and fat and some football to boot.

Cute story from this past week, I was at my best friend’s house and I was talking to his four year old son. His son said he’s going to play football when he’s older and I flexed my arm and said he’s going to need to get some big guns like these to play football. He flexed his arms and made “pew pew” sounds. I’d like to have some even bigger guns myself…

C4 W3. Week 52!

A week ago I was at 206.4. This morning I’m at 208.2. So yeah, after last week’s dental induced pain, I was able to return to my normal eating habits and that resulted in a little bit of weight gain. I hope that it means I gained muscle. On Sunday morning, I added weight to my bench press and incline bench press. Like I said when this challenge started, I want to gain muscle more than lose weight.

Overall, after the hangover on Sunday, it ended up being a pretty good week. I decided not to drink any alcohol this Saturday. But I am going to have some pizza, which I’m really looking forward to.

Last night I was watching The Big Lebowski. I decided to make a White Russian during it. I guess either I made it too strong or the loss of almost 100 pounds and only drinking once a week has turned me in to a light weight. And throw in the few beers I had at the Shot Tower so that’s why I ended up getting drunk last night. So this morning, I basically was hungover all morning. Then the Steelers game didn’t help at all making me feel better. It was just an all day nasty feeling. I had never worked out hungover. It was good, but I was worried every time I lifted a dumbbell, I thought I might let out all the liquor and food from last night.

So yeah, no more White Russians for a while.

C4 W2. Week 51: Embrace the Suck!

A week and a day ago I was at 209. This morning I’m at 206.4. Most of that is probably due to the fact that I didn’t eat much after a visit to the dentist on Tuesday. I went to do a check up last Tuesday and then this Tuesday I went to have some work done. It was painful and I didn’t feel like eating much Tuesday-Thursday because my mouth was still sore. Yesterday I finally was able to return to eating like normal. In the words of my mom, I’m a big baby…

The weekend in St. Louis was awesome. We did all sorts of things and we enjoyed one of the best, if not the best football games I’ve seen in person. I mean, the Rams on offense did nothing to deserve to win that game and they won anyways. The defense got a safety. The defense got a touchdown. The Special teams kicked two field goals. Okay, the offense got the critical two point conversion. But that’s about it.

Otherwise it was an entirely too short visit to my sister’s place. We drank plenty of beer and had plenty of food on Saturday. Sunday I did my best to eat healthy. I’m not sure if fried onion rings count, but yeah, that’s all I had at the Stadium restaurant at the casino next to the stadium.

With the one year anniversary coming up in a few weeks, I’m thinking of how to do something special with it. I might make a youtube video just showing a bunch of photos of myself in the last year.

C4 W1. Week 50

Wow. 50 weeks already? That is amazing! It really doesn’t seem that long. But it’s almost December. An entire year has gone by already.

Doing this early because I’m heading to St. Louis this weekend. Basically I’m down to 209 this morning. Had good cardio and I can really feel the weight lifting after those weeks off.

I keep forgetting to do my pictures. I’ve been really busy, hard to find time to do it all.

Challenge 4 begins!

After a very filling Thanksgiving on Thursday and a very nice dinner out last night, I’m ready to start Challenge number 4! As of Saturday morning I was 210.4, up 1.4 pounds from a week earlier.

What I would like to see with this challenge is a good deal of strength and muscle growth. I got Christmas, New Years, a weekend in St. Louis and my birthday between now and the 16th of February. Looking forward to seeing even more progress from the continued hard work.

Oh man, like all the other Thanksgivings over the years, I had too much. Had three or four beers. Had a lot of stuffing and potatoes and rolls and turkey. And of course a bunch of pie too. Then tonight, my parents had me come by and get another piece of pie because they want to get rid of it all before it goes bad.

It was a long day. The Lions-Texans game was very much worth watching, unlike the Patriots-Jets tonight.

But yeah, right now I’m exhausted. I think I’ll go to bed early tonight and then wake up at 6:00 ready to get back to my normal routine.

Week 48 and 49.

I was 210 on November 10th. On the 17th, I was at 209. Not too shabby. I cannot believe I’m under 210 pounds. It’s hard to remember that people don’t see me a lot, I’m not a very social guy. I don’t get out and about very much. So when people I know see me for the first time in six months to a year, I get the wide eyes sometimes.

And as of this past Sunday, it’s been 11 months since I started. I never thought I was going to stick with it this long. I thought I would have been happy after six months and just quit. Especially considering how crazy busy July was with work, vacation time, vacation being cut short and then more work and dad ending up in the hospital in both July and August. So yeah, I’m impressed with myself for having stuck with it and not given up.

But now it’s Thanksgiving week and it’s my mom’s birthday on Thursday too. It’s the best reason to hold off on Challenge 4 until next week. We are having birthday cake tonight (my parents, brother and I) and tomorrow it’ll be impossible to stay within the rules.

Lately, I’ve been obsessed with eating celery. Raw celery with no peanut butter on it. I usually have some with my lunch, even if I have lettuce and spinach in my salad. I spent the last few days after lunch reading up on it. Sure it doesn’t taste great, but it’s such a great food for the body.

My goal for the next challenge is to gain more muscle mass and worry less about fat loss. I’d like to add some serious weight to most of my lifts. I’ll probably up my eating a bit in order to do this. I’ve been adding nuts to my food routine as they are loaded with protein. And I might eat more meat too.

I’ve rambled on long enough and I’m late for work. Got a lot to do today and not enough time to do it all…

Weeks 46 and 47 Summaries.

Last Saturday I was at 211. Down from 212 two weeks earlier. This morning I’m at 210. So yeah, during the three weeks after finishing Challenge 3, I’ve dropped 2 pounds in three weeks. I hope that after Thanksgiving week I’m still at or below 210. Thanksgiving is gonna be a though day. Lots of tasty carbs and alcohol all over the place. But since it’s just once a year, I think I can splurge a bit.

But yeah, on November 25, it will time to start Challenge 4.

A week off. Week 45. Active Rest Week 46.

Last week, I decided to do a bit of inactive rest. I was beat and work was taking up a lot of hours and I just needed some time away from it all. So I basically stuck to the eating rules, minus working out and I broke the rules during the week several times.

But now I’m on active rest, which I’ll probably stick to for the next few weeks. I’d like to hold off on Challenge 4 until after Thanksgiving, but I might start the 18th anyways. I’m not really sure yet. Here’s what I was thinking for rest:

Challenge 3…
Week 1: Rest
Week 2: Active rest, HIIT cardio MWF
Week 3: Active rest, HIIT cardio MWF, Pushups, situps and pullups on STT.
Week 4: Active rest, Same as week 3.
Week 5: HIIT cardio MWF, Warm-up weight lifting on STT
Challenge 4…

That will give me a week off and a chance to slowly get back in to it. I’ve noticed the last two weeks, my muscles have grown a bit on my arms. So that probably the rest probably helped a ton. The hard part will be the Christmas-New Year’s stuff during a challenge, but I survived last year. And really it’s only about four days out of the whole freaking thing.

Otherwise, feeling good. I just work wasn’t such a damn pain the ass right now. Some day, I’d quit if I didn’t work for my dad.
